As Nawaz Sharif Returns To Pakistan Tomorrow, A Look At His Journey

In October 2019, this dude named Nawaz Sharif got some bad news. He found out he had this immune system disorder thingy while he was in jail for some Al-Azizia case. The doctors were all like, "Yo, dude, you gotta go to another country to get treated."

ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif

Guess who's coming back to Pakistan? Nawaz Sharif, the former Prime Minister and leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), is finally returning after living in London for four whole years. He decided to leave Pakistan all on his own, but now he's ready to come back. His last time as Prime Minister wasn't all rainbows and sunshine though. It started off with a big protest in Islamabad and ended with him getting kicked out of office by the Supreme Court. Why? Well, apparently he didn't stop taking money from his son's company.

So, get this, on July 6, 2018, Nawaz Sharif got in some serious trouble! He was found guilty in the Avenfield case and got slapped with a 10-year jail sentence. But that's not all, he also had to pay a whopping 8 million Euros, which is like 1.3 billion Pakistani Rupees. Ouch, that's a lot of money!

The x-Prime minister got in trouble because he was found guilty even though he wasn't there. He was actually in London taking care of his sick wife, according to Geo News.

Then, on July 13, Mr. Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz, who is a big shot in the PML-N party, got arrested when they came back to Lahore from London.

Guess what? The Sharifs went to the Islamabad High Court and guess what happened? They got some really good news! The court said that Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, and Captain Muhammad Safdar could be released from jail for a little while. The court also said that the punishments they were given would be put on hold for now. Isn't that great?

But hold on a second, the good news didn't last very long. In December of that same year, something not so good happened. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) gave Mr. Sharif a seven-year jail sentence and a really big fine of PKR 1.5 billion. This happened because of something called the Al-Azizia sugar mills reference. Bummer, right?

So, like, this guy got arrested right from the courtroom! It happened after this judge dude announced the verdict in this case about corruption. The case was all about this big scandal called Panamagate that happened in 2016. And guess what? Because of the verdict, this guy named Mr. Sharif can't hold any public office for a whole 10 years! That's a long time, man!

But wait, there's more! In October 2019, while he was already in jail for another case called Al-Azizia, he found out he had this immune system problem. The doctors told him he needed to go to another country for treatment. So, yeah, that's what happened to this guy.

The ex-Prime Minister got a temporary release from jail because of his health issues related to the sugar mills case. And you know what? The Islamabad High Court decided to give Nawaz an eight-week break from his trial in the Al-Azizia case because his health was getting worse.

The former Prime Minister, who used to be in charge, got a little break from being locked up because he wasn't feeling so good. It turns out he had some health problems connected to those sugar factories he was involved with. And get this, the Islamabad High Court decided to give him an eight-week pause from his trial in the Al-Azizia case because his health was getting even worse.

So, like, the court said that this guy can go out of the country for four weeks, but only if he has medical reports to prove he needs to. The Islamabad HC, which is like a fancy court, told the ex-PM to give himself up and come to court on September 1, 2020. They said his bail ended on February 27 and he didn't follow their orders, so they even gave him arrest warrants that he can't get out of.

Nawaz Sharif, a really important guy in Pakistan, didn't come back to the country when he was supposed to. He even got in trouble with the court because of it! They tried to get him to come back by sending him notices, arrest warrants, and even putting ads out about it. But he still didn't show up!

But then, something big happened in September. Nawaz's brother, who was the Prime Minister at the time, said that Nawaz would finally come back on October 21. This was right before they were going to have elections and the National Assembly was going to be dissolved.

On October 6, a new report about Nawaz's health was given to the court. It said that he has a heart problem and needs to be watched closely.

On October 19, Nawaz Sharif got some good news! He was given protective bail in two graft cases, which means he won't be arrested for now. And that's not all! The court also said he doesn't have to worry about getting arrested in the Toshakhana case either. So, he can come back to the country without any legal problems.

Oh, and here's another update. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)in Pakistan has given permission for a special plane to land in the country. This plane is booked just for Nawaz Sharif, the leader of PML-N. So, when the plane arrives, he can step out and be back in Pakistan. Exciting stuff, right?

The PML-N party is getting ready to throw a huge party for their ex-PM on October 21st! They're super excited and have invited lots of important people from all over Pakistan to come to Lahore. They even booked special trains to make sure all their supporters can come to the Minar-e-Pakistan rally.
